The Christmas Tag – What I Love Most About Christmas

The Christmas Tag 2017, what I love about Christmas

The lovely Cass tagged me in a Christmas post that is doing the rounds at the moment and as I LOVE LOVE LOVE all things Christmas, I thought I’d join in and share my own thoughts.

what’s your favourite christmas movie?

My favourite Christmas movie is The Muppet Christmas Carol. I have a bit of a tradition of watching this movie every Christmas Eve, it really gets me into to the Christmassy mood. BUT When I was a child I had a favourite video that I would watch all the time at Christmas and recently it popped back into my head. I could describe it in so much detail but I couldn’t for the life of me find it anywhere! I tried so many different searches in Google and Amazon and eventually found the VHS version, but that was no good to me as I don’t have a VHS player! Cue more searching and I finally found it! It is called Celebrate Christmas with Mickey, Donald and Friends. This is my ultimate favourite Christmas thing to watch, it brings back so many memories!

Have you ever had a white christmas?

I think I remember one from my childhood but not from recent years. I have cheated a little though and had a wonderful Christmas in Sweden a few years ago and that really was a white Christmas! Feet of snow and minus temperatures. It does feel ever so Christmassy with all that snow. I’m not sure what this year has in store for us.

where do you usually spend your holiday?

It is different every year! I’ve had a total mix of Christmas days from being just me and Mr P, hosting for several people, spending it at my Dad’s, spending it at Mr P’s mum’s, being in Sweden with Mr P’s family and probably some other places I can’t remember. That’s why I love having the tradition of my Christmas Eve movie. This year Christmas Day is just me and Mr P. I’m looking forward to a nice chilled out day. We will be seeing family in the days afterwards.

what is your favourite christmas song?

I love Slade’s ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’ but equally really like the Michael Buble Christmas album. I’ve had Heart Christmas radio on every day!!  There are so many great Christmas songs that it’s hard to pick just one!

can you name all of santa’s reindeer?

I know there are 9 (pub quiz question anybody?!) and I also know the little rhyme from the poem ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas’:

Now Dasher, now Dancer, now Prancer and Vixen, on Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen.

Plus Rudolph!

what holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

We do party food when we decorate the tree (I love party food!!); we see friends for a food, drinks and games night; I wear as many Christmas-themed outfits as I can (this was more acceptable when working in a school! I now wear a different one each time I’m tutoring); we’ve bought our first real tree so I’m hoping to make that a new tradition; going for a wander on the seafront to see the silver band play while drinking mulled wine; plus Christmas songs and movies.

what is the best christmas present you ever received?

Mine was December 2016 and it was the gift of buying our first house. We had worked and saved really hard over the last few years to get debt-free and to save a deposit and we found our dream house. It completed and we moved in in December 2016. It was a wonderful feeling.

what is your most memorable christmas memory?

I think it has got to be the games and the fun that is had. All the laughter!

what made you realise the truth about father christmas?

I can’t really remember the details,  but knowing what I was like as a child (eagle-eyed!) it was probably the same handwriting or same wrapping paper as the other presents from my parents. I do love the whole idea of Father Christmas though.

what makes the holidays special for you?

I love everything about Christmas but I think the main thing for me is spending time with friends and family. I also make sure that Christmas is a time for me to enjoy myself and take part in a bit of self-care.

You can also watch my video over on Youtube if you want to see me in a Christmas jumper nodding my head to a Christmas song!
